The Hip-Hop Orchestra Experience Release Two Films on Voice of America & PBS ALL ARTS
Audiences can now explore The Hip-Hop Orchestra Experience through two compelling films airing on public television.
On March 19, PBS’ ALL ARTS channel premieres The Hip-Hop Orchestra Experience, a concert film showcasing this cutting-edge ensemble. Led by Korean-born composer JooWan Kim, the orchestra fuses hip-hop with classical giants like Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach. Featuring four rappers, a soprano, a turf dancer, and a chamber orchestra, the film captures the group’s electrifying performances and original compositions, interwoven with candid interviews that highlight how their work bridges cultural divides and sparks dialogue.
In addition, the group’s award-winning 2023 documentary, Method Sampling: How to Build the Future Together, was recently released internationally on Voice of America. This film explores “Method Sampling,” the principle behind JooWan Kim’s innovative approach, and its applications beyond music. JooWan learns from a disabled choreographer, a self-taught Black mycologist, a tiny house builder and a critical theorist about how Method Sampling may allow society to overcome the challenges it faces today.
The Hip-Hop Orchestra Experience celebrates the fusion of hip-hop and classical music as they transcend cultural divides and redefine the future of concert music. THHOE will be on the road starting March 1 and are available to bring their new genre of music to your community.
