Assad-Archetypes_1600x660b

“Twelve short, exploratory works spanning the intricacies of classical chamber music and the drive of Latin jazz…these works embodied concepts of humanity that exist in all cultures.”

Boston Classical Review

“Sergio and Odair Assad have moved audiences and inspired guitarists around the world for over 30 years with revelatory performances of Latin American music and European classics, original compositions, deep musicality, and supple, almost telepathic, guitar duo performances.”

San Francisco Classical Voice

“Clarice Assad is quite simply a phenomenon who has streaked across the world’s musical landscape like one of those comets that appears just once in a lifetime.”

Archetypes explores the universal symbolic archetypes that appear in stories, legends, and myths throughout the world—great floods, creation, paradise, apocalypses—as well as characters that appear in stories across cultures. Expressing themselves through guitar, voice, and percussion quartet, the ensemble will explore global musical traditions taking the audience on a vast musical journey grounded in familiar stories.

Archetypes bind all of us together through our shared connection to these fundamental aspects of the human experience. In storytelling, an archetype can be a character, a setting, a theme, or it can even be a particular outcome. This may explain how some stories can sound almost identical, even if they originate from vastly different cultures across the globe and feature characters and settings that are in complete contrast with one another.
