“A thrilling adventure with high drama and a fulminant battle for humanity…The story is very popular with young audiences: devout listening even from the youngest children, closed eyes from adults, completely absorbed in the tale…The melodies of the well-known soundtrack composer for video game blockbusters touch the heart…Especially in the cheerful, playful moments, the music is reminiscent of Walt Disney’s early films.”

Die Rheinpfalz (Heart of Ice)

“We have experienced a completely new Nobuo Uematsu: stylistically, the compositions are reminiscent of his early works for ‘Final Fantasy’, but at the same time they sound fresh and original. Uematsu lets his music speak for itself, bringing back memories of classical works such as Sergei Prokofiev’s ‘Peter and the Wolf’. The compositions stand on their own, it is entirely up to them to convey drama and characters. And they do this brilliantly – so much so that despite the late hour, younger visitors are just as captivated as the older guests.”

M! Games (Heart of Ice)

“Merregnon follows in the footsteps of Saint-Sains and Prokofiev and aims to inspire young audiences for music. In Ludwigshafen, the Staatsphilharmonie proved that this can be done successfully…Shimomura has captured the story in music with great sensitivity, which the Staatsphilharmonie realises masterfully…Merregnon is a symphonic fairytale that calls for courage, confronting problems, developing empathy and respecting both friendship and freedom.”

Mannheimer Morgen (Land of Silence)

We are thrilled to partner with Merregnon Studios to offer two gorgeous symphonic scores by Yoko Shimomura and Nobuo Uematsu, the world’s most prolific video game composers. Merregnon: Land of Silence (2021) and Merregnon: Heart of Ice (2024) bring the wonder of the symphony to a whole new audience through music, narration and illustration. Both programmes have been developed specifically for a 10-12 year old audience, making them ideal for school and family concerts.

Famed for his work on the hugely successful Final Fantasy series, Nobuo Uematsu is often referred to by fans as the ‘Beethoven of video game music’. His distinct and soul-stirring melodies form the basis of a unique musical experience for the young and young at heart. Well known for her work on multi-million selling video games such as Kingdom Hearts, Yoko Shimomura already has legions of fans around the world.

Orchestras including the Royal Stockholm and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestras, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie have performed Merregnon: Land of Silence for thousands of families worldwide since 2021. It tells the symphonic tale of the orphan Miru, who embarks on an adventure to discover why her land is shrouded in mysterious silence.

Merregnon: Heart of Ice is Uematsu’s first orchestral work created specifically for the concert hall. The story follows Kjugo, a cheerful wooden robot who must search for his creator in a realm of eternal frost ruled by the malevolent Ice Wind Dancer.
This tale of adventure and self-discovery is brought to life by Uematsu’s extraordinary music, a heartfelt narration by German author Frauke Angel, and brought to screen with imaginative manga-style illustrations featuring character design by Emmy Award-winning producer and director Julien Chheng.

These new family-friendly offerings are sure to capture the attention of video game fans and bring a diverse audience to North American orchestras. This is Peter and the Wolf for the PlayStation generation!
