Multiple GRAMMY and Emmy Award-winning Gold Record double bassist Ranaan Meyer is best known as a founding member and performer with the string trio Time for Three, Founder and Artistic Director of the Honeywell Arts Academy, and as a solo artist, composer, and educator.
In June 2022, Time for Three released Letters for the Future on Deutsche Grammophon. The album, recorded with The Philadelphia Orchestra, features Concerto 4-3 by Pulitzer Prize and GRAMMY Award-winner Jennifer Higdon and Contact by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts. Along with Time for Three, Ranaan composed and recorded the score for Robin Wright’s Focus Features film LAND, and co-produced and recorded on Summer Walker’s sophomore album, released on the Love Renaissance label. Time for Three has performed around the world, including at the Musikverein, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, Night of the Proms tour, and with the Czech Philharmonic and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestras. The ensemble is in demand across North America.
Ranaan Meyer is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Honeywell Arts Academy, where he has played a key role in empowering the next generation of artists through a philosophy of “sharing of knowledge.” This philosophy is rooted in an inclusive, supportive environment where ideas flow freely between teachers and students. The Academy grew out of the Wabass Institute for the Double Bass, a premier summer program for bass musicians founded in 2008 in Wabash, Indiana. In 2020, after completing the 13th season of the Wabass Institute, Meyer, along with CEO Tod Minnich, CDO Cathy Gatchel, and Program Director Emily Meyer, expanded the program for the 2021 season, ultimately forming the Honeywell Arts Academy. Now approaching its 16th season, Wabass alumni can be found worldwide, continuing to spread the philosophy of “sharing of knowledge.” The unique summer music institute for emerging artists offers full scholarships funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, along with additional charitable donations and grants.
As a soloist, Ranaan composed his first concerto for double bass and orchestra, Concerto for My Family, in 2021. It is his homage to the people who have lifted him up throughout his journey. He is an alumnus of The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, Temple Prep, Manhattan School of Music, and the Curtis Institute of Music. Ranaan co-founded Time for Three while at Curtis, but prior to the ensemble’s demanding touring schedule, he was a member of the double bass section of The Philadelphia Orchestra.
