Steven Sloane
Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra

Renowned American-Israeli Conductor Steven Sloane has been announced as the new Music Director at the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra from the season 2020/21. Until that time he will serve as Music Director Designate.

Steven Sloane: "For me personally, this appointment feels like coming home after a long journey. Our first mission will be in setting and preserving the highest musical standards along with strengthening the connection between the JSO and its audience in Israel and internationally. We will work together to create new collaborations with other institutions  in order to reach out to potential new audience groups of all age, particularly ones who haven't attended many orchestras before.

Yair Stern, CEO of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra: "The Orchestra's board is convinced that the new music director, Steven Sloane, will lead the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra with confidence and expertise. We believe that Sloane's extensive experience will be beneficial for the orchestra and will add to the achievements of his predecessor, Maestro Frederic Chaslin, who is completing his fruitful eight-year term."

Steven Sloane has also recently been appointed Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Adviser of the Malmö Opera in Sweden. On February2, he conducted the premiere of a new production of "The Flying Dutchman" by Richard Wagner, which received outstandig critical acclaim. As General Music Director of the Bochum Symphony Orchestra for the previous 25 years, Steven Sloane succeeded in planning and finalizing a unique new concert hall and music centre for the city and its region - the Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr, which opened in October 2016. Celebrating its second anniversary shows its incredible success story: sold out houses and a considerable increase in subscriptions.

As Professor of Conducting at Berlin's University of the Arts, he established the "International Conducting Academy Berlin" (ICAB).

Steven Sloane is a frequent guest with prestigious orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Tokyo Metropolitan, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
